Ricochet is a term used to describe the rebound or the bouncing off of an object, usually a projectile, a ball or a beam of light, after it hits a surface or an obstacle. It is commonly used in sports like billiards, basketball and tennis. It can also refer to a verbal or written conversation that goes off topic or misses its intended target, or an economic term associated with the movement of money. In law enforcement, a ricochet refers to gunfire which hits an unintended target after bouncing off a surface.
